Police identify woman found dead after fire
An 85-year-old Elk Grove Village woman was identified as the person who died in what authorities say was an accidental car fire early Saturday.
The Cook County medical examiner's office ruled that Evelyn Dressel's death was an accident.
Police did not offer any more details about how the accident happened. Dressel's family members declined to comment.
At about 3 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a car fire on the 100 block of Northwest Point Boulevard in Elk Grove Village.
The car, a 2004 Mercury Sable, was registered to Evelyn Dressel.
Upon arrival, they found the car fully engulfed in flames.
After the fire was extinguished, human remains were discovered inside the vehicle, police said.
Neighbor Kathy Lichter, who lives on the 1200 block of Hemlock Drive, said Dressel had a son and daughter. She was also an avid gardener.
"Very pleasant lady," Lichter said of Dressel.
"Always upbeat. We'd talk over the fence when the weather was warm and just chat."
No other information was available.
