Woman shot to death on bridge

EAST ST. LOUIS -- Illinois St. Police say a 23-year-old St. Louis woman died and her husband was critically injured when they were shot on the Poplar Street Bridge over the Mississippi River.

Lt. Jim Morrisey of the state police says Shannon Federick was in a car with her husband and another woman early Saturday morning when someone from another vehicle fired shots at their car.

The shooting occurred in the westbound lanes of the Poplar Street Bridge about 40 feet east of the state line.

Morrisey said the three were returning from a nightclub in East St. Louis when the shooting occurred.

The husband was listed in critical condition Saturday.
