You can't have it both ways on race
The Jan. 6th editorial "Leave Race Out of Choosing Senator" is laughable and hypocritical of the paper.
You can't have it both ways, Daily Herald.
You gave we the people high hosannas for electing a black president, drooling all over yourselves about how enlightened we have become in doing so, as if being black was the principal qualification to be president.
Now, because you don't like Blagojevich, we shouldn't talk about race in filling another very critical political position.
The truth is that Gov. Blagojevich still holds the office of governor in this state and his appointment of Roland Burris is a legitimate exercise of his powers as governor, like it or not. And perhaps, because Illinois has a significant black population, there is some relevance to having a black senator if we are to truly have a representative government.
