Don't believe troops are all Republicans

I am responding to a letter (Jan. 17) to the editor from Mr. Skaritka of Elgin stating that most of the troops are not Democrat."Where are the Liberals in our Military?"

He stated that in the Military Times, only 13 percent identified themselves to be Democrat. That does not mean that the other 87 percent are Republican. That only means that the others have chosen not to declare their political leanings. Maybe they are 87 percent Independent.

My son just finished his latest tour in Iraq, and said that he couldn't believe that most of the political radio was all Rush Limbaugh, Hannity and other right wing radio and that little to none of the radio was liberal. Funny how that happens.

He and most of his soldiers were voting for Mr. Obama.

Soldiers do not declare their politics because it can, and it does, affect events in the Army. Are you aware that there is a large number of Blacks and Latinos in the Army? Do you expect me to believe that they voted for McCain?

Mr. Skaritka, most soldiers, as well as their wives, have been looking forward to the change for America ... President Obama. The results of the election speak the will of the people.
