Hoffman Village Shopping Center hit with foreclosure lawsuit

The group which owns the Hoffman Village Shopping Center is being sued over allegations it hasn't made a mortgage payment since October.

Wells Fargo Bank filed the foreclosure lawsuit on Jan. 9 with Cook County Circuit Court.

The center on Golf Road near Barrington Road is managed by B&G Property Management out of Michigan. A woman answering phone calls there declined to comment.

The lawsuit lists nine defendants, including Paul Schenly, a concert pianist from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

The more than $280,000 in property taxes on the center were paid on time and in full last year, according to county records. The most recent of the two installments was due on Nov. 3 and received by the county on Oct. 29.

Hoffman Estates officials have long posted information on a Web site to prospective business owners interested in opening a storefront at the center. Parcels from 500 to 15,000 square feet are available to lease. The center was purchased by the current owners in 2005 for $23.5 million.

Dominick's Finer Foods is the chief tenant of the 158,313-square-foot strip mall. The exterior of the Dominick's was recently remodeled.

It was business as usual on Wednesday at the center. The manager of the West Suburban Currency Exchange said she hadn't heard of the lawsuit or any problems.
