Ex-Marine fights murder extradition
DANVILLE -- An eastern Illinois man accused in the 1972 shooting death of a Marine sergeant is fighting extradition to North Carolina.
Vermilion County State's Attorney Randy Brinegar says former Marine Rodger Gill of Athens told a judge Tuesday in Danville that he's contesting his extradition in the killing of Sgt. William Miller.
Brinegar says he'll now seek what's called a governor's warrant. That would force Gill to face the charges against him.
Gill is charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder. He's the third former Marine charged in the case, along with Vickie Babbitt of Bend, Ore., and George Hayden of Cape Carteret, N.C.
Miller was found shot to death near Camp Lejeune in 1972.
