Police Chief Russ Laine, Algonquin

Algonquin Police Chief Russ Laine, long active with the Special Olympics, is taking his support for the group to Washington.

Laine, along with 29 athletes, 10 Special Olympics officials and 10 police officers, has been invited to march down Pennsylvania Avenue in the 56th inaugural parade following Obama's swearing in.

"So, maybe I could get a nice picture of the president," Laine quipped.

Laine has been involved with the Special Olympics and its Global Law Enforcement Torch Run since 1990. Laine, an Elgin resident, has been Algonquin's chief since 1985.
