Vandalism is not a form of protest

The desecration of Jewish institutions in the Chicago area is a despicable act intended to violate not only the sacred space of houses of worship but an entire community's sense of security.

The military action Israel is engaged in to stop Hamas rocket fire has many people in Chicago expressing strong feelings about the conflict, but in no way should this be used as an excuse for violence and hostility against Jews in Chicago.

Vandalism as a replacement for legitimate political protest is unacceptable in any democratic society.
