Former Marine arrested in 1972 murder case

DANVILLE -- A 56-year-old central Illinois man awaits extradition to North Carolina to face allegations he participated in the 1972 shooting death of a Camp Lejeune Marine sergeant.

Rodger Gill is the third former Marine arrested in the case. The Athens man is expected to appear in court Tuesday.

Danville Director of Public Safety Larry Thomason says Gill was arrested Friday at the Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, where he was undergoing treatment.

He's charged with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the death of Sgt. William Miller.

Vickie Babbitt of Bend, Ore., and George Hayden of Cape Carteret, N.C., were charged last September with first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in Miller's death.
