Fed up with taxes? Just move, some say.
In one of its Saturday editorials, the Daily Herald questioned the wisdom and economic timing of the Naperville Park District and School District 203 spending $750,000 of taxpayer money to move some garden plots in exchange for more athletic fields. Au contraire, Daily Herald; this is Naperville, where we're impervious to economic cycles. We were once named America's No. 1 town by Money magazine. And with the help of unswerving Daily Herald endorsements, voters approve every tax increase request that comes their way. I'll never forget a comment by a school board member that I once served with. She said, If people don't like their taxes, they can move. As disconcerting as this haughty attitude is, what's even more distressing is to realize many other Naperville leaders, organizations and taxing bodies share this very same sentiment. Napervillians fed up with reckless spending and skyrocketing property taxes and have two options: 1) elect officials with more common sense and backbone, or 2) move.
