Kane County sheriff Web site maps crime
With the help of its Web site, the Kane County Sheriff's Department is making it easier for residents of unincorporated areas to keep tabs on neighborhood crime.
Officials recently announced the addition of an interactive crime report at kanesheriff.com, where the public can get the latest crime statistics from various geographic locations.
The feature includes an interactive county map, with each of the county's 16 townships divided into quadrants. By clicking on a particular quadrant, you can view the number of burglaries, domestic incidents, vehicle crashes and crimes against people from the previous 365 days in that area; the figures are updated daily.
County officials said it's important to remember that not all the areas shown on the map are unincorporated, and the county site does not list information from within municipal borders.
To view the report, go to kanesheriff.com and click on the "community policing" link. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Crime Analysts Unit Report."
Officials said the link soon would be moved to the Web site's front page.
