Making your garden 'photo ready'

Green thumb clubs

• The Garden Club of Inverness hosts Shirley Remes of Better Homes and Gardens for a presentation on tips to make your garden "photo ready," at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22, at All Saints Lutheran Church, 630 S. Quentin Road, Palatine. Visitors welcome.

• The Inverness club also is accepting applications for scholarships from students in Palatine Township High School District 211 and Barrington High School. Students can apply if they major in horticulture or environmentally related studies in college.

Micro-greens

Husky Heroes

• The Morton Arboretum will be hosting a weekend full of dog-sledding demonstrations, presentations and displays of dogs available for adoption during its "Husky Heroes" event, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 24 and 25. Admittance to the event is included with admission to the Arboretum in Lisle, though snowshoe rental is $8 for three hours.

Mixing greens

• Dan Benarcik of Chanticleer's Creative Plant Combinations in Pennsylvania leads a demonstration on new planting combinations from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in the Thornhill Education Center at the Arboretum in Lisle. Cost is $30.

President Daffodil

• The Midwest Daffodil Society hosts George Dorner, president of the American Daffodil Society, for a lecture at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, at the botanic garden in Glencoe. No extra charges.
