No charges for Chicago driver in fatal funeral procession crash
The Chicago man who struck and killed an 82-year-old Elk Grove Village woman on Monday while driving in a funeral procession will not be ticketed, police said.
Since the 49-year-old man was part of a funeral procession, he had the right of way when his Ford pickup hit the 1992 Saturn carrying Carol A. Struebing, 82, of Elk Grove Village, who was killed. Therefore, he will not be given a ticket, Sgt. Jeff Prior said Thursday.
The woman driving the other car, Elk Grove Village's June A. Lippert, 79, who's still in the hospital, has not been given a ticket either, Prior said. It has not been determined whether the police will issue one to her, since the investigation is still ongoing, he said.
The funeral procession was heading west about 10:30 a.m. from Grove Memorial Chapel on Biesterfield Road traveling through the intersection at Wellington Avenue. Police said Lippert was driving a Saturn north on Wellington, approaching Biesterfield and proceeded into the intersection on a green light.
