Bail reduced in Carpentersville rape case
A Kane County judge Thursday reduced bail by more than half for a Round Lake Beach man accused of sexual assault at a party in Carpentersville.
Judge Allen M. Anderson agreed to the defense's request to reduce bail for 22-year-old Carlos Gomez from $150,000 to $60,000 over prosecutors' objection, according to the state's attorney's office.
Gomez, of the 400 block of Meadow Green Lane, has been in custody since he was charged Dec. 30 with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony. He is accused of assaulting an unconscious 17-year-old woman at a party on the 0-100 block of Birch Street after she previously refused his sexual advances.
If convicted, Gomez could face up to 15 years in prison.
