Planning an artful year in Hoffman Estates

The schedule for this year's Hoffman Estates Arts Commission programs is set. And not a minute too soon.

Apparently, a newsletter not sanctioned by the village has been making its way around Hoffman Estates with the wrong dates, commission Chairwoman Michelle Pilafas said. She isn't sure what parties are responsible for the faulty mailer, but fret not. While we enjoy the subfreezing temperatures this week, allow me to paint a picture of a sunny day at the always verdant Virginia Hayter Village Green as sounds from the village's summer concert series fills the air. Here are a few dates to circle on your calendar:

• The summer concert series shows begin at 7 p.m. on Thursdays June 18, June 25, July 9, July 23, July 30, Aug. 6 and Aug. 13. Of course the event is co-sponsored by the Hoffman Estates Park District.

• The children's concert series at Vogelei begin at noon on Fridays June 26, July 10, July 24, Aug. 7 and Aug. 21.

• The annual Octoberfest-themed Platzkonzert is on Saturday Sept. 12.
