Ice cream man guilty of exposing self to child
A former substitute teacher and ice cream truck driver has been convicted of exposing himself to a 3-year-old Sugar Grove boy.
A Kane County jury found Douglas R. Jones, 47, of the 100 block of Middle Avenue, Aurora, guilty Tuesday of sexual exploitation of a child younger than 13.
On June 25, 2007, Jones was selling ice cream in Sugar Grove's Walnut Woods subdivision for an Aurora-based vendor when he tried to sexually arouse himself by revealing his private parts to an approaching toddler, authorities said. The incident was reported by the boy's father, who said he witnessed it, and Jones was arrested minutes later near a neighborhood swimming pool.
Jones, who had no prior criminal history, drove a truck for Eskimo Man Ice Cream at the time of his arrest and previously worked as a substitute teacher in East Aurora School District 131.
He faces up to three years in prison at sentencing Feb. 25.
