Cops: Burglars targeting Long Grove

Lake County Sheriff officials are asking for help in locating a ring of burglars that was last known to be operating in Long Grove.

Lake County Sheriff spokesman Sgt. Christopher Thompson said the ring struck at about noon on Jan. 8 in the area of Midlothian and Gilmer roads in Long Grove.

In that case, the victim reported that a white woman, about 30 years old and 5-feet, 8-inches tall, rang her doorbell. The woman was carrying about 150 pink fliers.

The victim saw the woman, but did not answer the door, Thompson said. After getting no response, the woman left, Thompson said.

About 10 minutes later, the woman came back to the house and again rang the doorbell, Thompson said. Again, Thompson said, the victim did not answer and the woman left.

Five minutes later, Thompson said, three men entered the residence and began looking around.

Thompson described the offenders as being about 5-feet, 7-inches tall and about 160 pounds. All were wearing gray or black hooded sweatshirts and scarves over their faces.

Thompson said the victim confronted the men, and they fled the residence and the area.

The victim called police, Thompson said, and they canvassed the neighborhood. Police determined the woman carrying the fliers and ringing doorbells was working with the men to stake out the neighborhood.

Through further investigation, police learned the woman claimed she was a graduate student and was doing research for her sociology major.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact Det. Anthony Parisi of the Lake County Sheriff's Department at (847) 377-4250.
