Judson to add golf, tennis, cheerleading and poms to program
The Judson University athletic department has announced it is adding more sports to the school's athletic program.
The Eagles will be adding men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis and cheerleading and poms to the program, beginning with 2009-10 school year.
With these additions, Judson will now have 14 sports. Men's and women's cross country were added this school year.
"Bringing back tennis, golf and cheerleading to the Judson athletic department is very exciting and I look forward to empowering coaches to build programs that can be successful," said Judson athletic director Nancy Binger.
Each of the new sports will have scholarship money to work with. This past season, men's and women's cross country brought 17 new student-athletes to Judson.
"It is key that we are going to provide the resources and scholarships to these teams so the programs can flourish and represent Judson well," Binger said. "This is a great way to give students a community to be a part of and enhance their time at Judson."
Judson Hall of Fame: Judson will hold its annual Athletic Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony on Friday, Jan. 23 and will induct five new members into the hall.
Mike Barnes (men's soccer), Miriam Holmes-Bates (women's basketball), Mike O'Brien (men's cross country), Art Stueber (men's tennis) and Jerry Smith (coach of men's basketball, baseball and men's soccer) will all be inducted.
The Jan. 23 banquet will be held at the Holiday Inn & Suites Northwest in Elgin and will begin with a social hour at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and can be purchased by contacting Jan Andresen via e-mail at jandresen@judsonu.edu, or by phone at (847) 628-1580.
