Don't like my snowy walks? Come help!

I have read several articles on shoveling sidewalks, and I'm tired of (hearing) from people who don't understand why people don't do what they should be doing.

I've lived in my home, a house on a corner, for 24 years. Twenty-four years ago I was 24 years younger. I had two children living with me and a husband to help with the shoveling.

Now ... the husband has passed on, the kids have moved on, so it's just me. I can only do what my body will let me do. I choose to shovel maybe just a path out to my car and the driveway to get to work and when I return I will shovel the rest.

I can't tell you the number of kids that have walked by and I say, "You guys could be making lots of money if you get out and shovel." They giggle and continue to walk by.

I don't know about you but to get kids to work is a fight, one that I have dealt with. My kids eventually came out to help, and also helped other neighbors. Maybe some of you who are complaining can talk to our youth on the health benefits of shoveling.

As well, remember that people will shovel when they want to. If it snows all day long, I'm one to wait until the snow is done or almost done falling. If you choose to walk or run during that time it's your choice. It's my choice when to shovel.

I have the job of clearing snow from the entire corner sidewalk. I can't tell you how many times I have gone out and cleared it beautifully and the next time I look, it's completely filled in from the snow plows.

This also applies to the end of my driveway. It's usually hard snow, which is backbreaking.

So, to the people who have issues with sidewalks not being shoveled, anytime you want to, grab a shovel and come on over and help me out. I would appreciate your help!
