Some real money spent on abstinence
I generally don't read Cal Thomas. On the other hand I always read Ellen Goodman. I hope it is not just because I agree with her on many things. I noted that you put Cal on the left of the page today and Ellen the right. (Change?) The facts support Goodman that the government's program on sex education has little to do with the practices of our young people. The columnist points out that the government spent $1.5 billion on its program to encourage abstinence with no evidence to show that it has been successful. As the late Senator Durksen is said have put it, "You spend a billion here and a billion there, and pretty soon you have some money." Believe in fidelity in marriage (?) Yes! But let us not delude ourselves that the withholding of information on sex education is going to change the behavior of our young people.
