Police sought heroin dealer, but say he sold them crack instead
A 19-year-old Chicago man who police say brought cocaine to a heroin deal nonetheless faces a lengthy prison term following his arrest Wednesday in Carpentersville.
Joshua C. Hampton, of the 6100 block of Marshfield, was charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a church, delivery of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance in court Thursday.
His arrest came as part of an investigation by the Carpentersville police gang and drug unit into reports of a man dealing heroin on the village's east side.
An undercover officer arranged a deal to buy $300 in heroin from the suspected dealer at a gas station Wednesday evening, police said.
Hampton, police said, drove up to the station about 9:30 p.m. and got into the undercover officer's car. He then placed a plastic bag containing 3.06 grams of crack cocaine on the front seat, police said, and received $300 in marked bills before being arrested.
Hampton was unable to post a $20,000 bond Thursday and was taken to the Kane County jail. His next court date is on Jan. 16 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
