No jail for Elgin student who punched dean
A Larkin High School student who punched a school dean in the face has been ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
Matthew C. Greenlee, 18, was charged with aggravated battery and criminal property damage Sept. 30 after he punched dean Richard Lebron in the left eye as the administrator tried to break up a fight between Greenlee and another student.
Greenlee admitted to the charges Wednesday and was enrolled in the Kane County State's Attorney's Office's Second Chance Program.
He must perform 100 hours of community service, pay $769 in fees and restitution and avoid drugs, alcohol and criminal activity. If he does not complete the program by January 2010, his case could be returned for full prosecution.
Officials at the Elgin school have declined to comment on the incident, citing student confidentiality. In September, Greenlee told a judge he was standing up for his girlfriend when the altercation occurred.
