Raising gas tax another bad idea

I recently heard on the radio that the federal government is considering raising the federal tax on gasoline because they are taking in less revenue since the price has gone down and the government cannot effort to do the capital replacements that need to be done based on the lower tax revenue.

With all due respect to the geniuses in our federal government, this is a horrible idea. Although gasoline prices have gone down recently, no one expects them to remain at their current level.

I suggest that the federal geniuses take the money from other programs that have proved to be failures and not increase the taxes on gasoline, which essentially affects every single citizen of this nation. Does anyone in our federal government or for that matter our state government have a common sense or business gene within their body?
