Fine arts classes are necessary
Schools are getting rid of their fine arts classes.
Limited funding and low test scores have caused schools to reduce or drop music classes.
Clearly those cutting music education haven't seen any of the research that shows kids who study music tend to score higher on standardized tests.
These classes give kids a feeling of belonging. Schools offer activities that revolve around music that kids can be part of, which can result in meeting new people and forming lifelong friendships. Personal growth is often achieved in these classes. When I was in high school, choir was the only class in which I had an opportunity to volunteer and do something for the community.
When test scores fall and school budgets get cut it's the fine art classes that are the first to go.
