Elgin cop acquitted of DUI, fleeing Bartlett police

An Elgin police officer was acquitted Tuesday of all four charges brought against him by Bartlett police stemming from a traffic stop that occurred Oct. 20, 2007, on Route 59.

In a bench trial in the courtroom of DuPage County Judge Karen Wilson, Officer Phillip Brown was found not guilty on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, fleeing, disobeying a red light and speeding.

Brown, at the time a school liaison officer at Elgin High School, was driving a 2003 Mercedes at 12:30 a.m. on the Saturday he was pulled over.

Bartlett police accused him of driving in excess of 75 mph in a 45 mph zone and was stopped near Lake Street and Naperville Road near Villa Olivia.

Brown has since been assigned to the complaint/information desk on the first floor of the Elgin police station.

The internal investigation of the incident is expected to continue.
