Buffalo Grove robbery suspect was on parole at time of arrest

An Elk Grove Village man recently charged with robberies in Schaumburg and Buffalo Grove was on parole from a robbery conviction in Pennsylvania at the time.

Robert Maday, 38, of the 500 block of Biesterfield Road, was paroled from prison in Pennsylvania on Sept. 6, 2005, having been sentenced to 5 to 15 years the previous January, Pennsylvania authorities said. No one could be reached immediately to explain why he was paroled so quickly.

Though he's since moved to Illinois, his parole continued to be monitored via an interstate agreement.

Maday was stopped for speeding by Schaumburg police on Dec. 29. During the stop, the arresting officer reportedly found a pellet gun, several toy replicas of guns, cocaine, a ski mask and more than $15,000 in cash in Maday's vehicle.

The FBI has charged Maday with robbing the Harris Bank at 1190 N. McHenry Road in Buffalo Grove a couple hours before his traffic stop in Schaumburg.

More than $13,000 had been taken from the bank after a robber wearing a ski mask ordered tellers to empty their cash drawers while he displayed what appeared to be the butt of a handgun.

Schaumburg police also charged Maday with four counts of aggravated robbery for incidents in October in which purses were stolen as well as with possession of a controlled substance.

Maday is being held without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
