87-year-old bowls perfect game, ends up in ER
BELLEVILLE -- Eighty-seven-year-old Belleville retiree Dale Van Blair was on quite a roll when he bowled a perfect game this week. A day later, he didn't have any good luck to spare.
Van Blair won't be bowling for a while after slipping and falling on ice Tuesday, tearing open the thumb on his bowling hand in the process. Closing the wound required seven stitches.
The former English teacher at Belleville West High School is taking it all in stride.
That includes the perfect game, something he's had before. The guy who's been bowling for a quarter century, lately with a 15-pound ball, was just 83 when he last notched a 300 game in March 2005.
