Zion man charged with kidnapping:
A Zion man has been charged with home invasion, kidnapping and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he was arrested by Waukegan police officers early Saturday morning. Officials say Alberto Rivera, 31, forcibly a woman from a home in the 2100 block of Edgewood Road in Waukegan. They said that Rivera hit the woman as he was removing her. Another man in the house tried to intervene. Rivera then pulled a .38 caliber pistol and pointed it at the man and fled with the woman. Police eventually arrested him at his home on the 2900 block of Enoch in Zion. When they entered, they found Rivera and the woman, who was not injured. Rivera is being held at the Lake County jail. His bond is $250,000.

Mundelein High School's college and career resource center hosts its annual financial aid program for parents on Wednesday, Jan. 14. It begins at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The featured speaker will be Eric Weems, a financial-aid officer from Loyola University. Parents will learn about new developments in the college financial planning process and receive information about scholarships, grants and loans. Meeting canceled:
The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board's Jan. 6-7 meeting in Chicago has been canceled due to lack of a quorum. The board was expected to hear Vista Health System's Lindenhurst hospital proposal. The next planning board meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. Jan. 27-28 at the Chicago Mart Plaza, 350 W. Mart Center Drive, Chicago. For more than a year, Vista has been trying to gain approval for its hospital plan, which now calls for a more than $106 million, 190,836-square-foot, 132-bed acute care facility near Deep Lake Road and Route 132 on the site of the existing Vista Surgery Center.
