3 badly hurt in downtown Antioch crash

Three people were seriously injured Monday when their car slammed into a parked car on Lake Street in downtown Antioch. Two victims were airlifted by helicopters from the scene.

Police said the driver, John O'Connor, 74, of Antioch, ran a stop sign and slammed his 1988 Volvo station wagon into a parked car near Hannah's Home Accents at 455 Lake St., about 2:30 p.m.

O'Connor's wife, Norma, 72, and another passenger, Willa Craig, 78, were taken by helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Both women sustained head injuries. John O'Connor was taken by ambulance to Vista Medical Center in Waukegan for head injuries.

The accident is under investigation, but police department spokesman Jim Ruth said John O'Connor will be ticketed for failure to reduce speed.
