3 accused in Alton slaying

ALTON-- A woman is accused with two men in the robbery-related shooting death of her former boyfriend in the Mississippi River city of Alton.

Madison County prosecutors on Monday charged 24-year-old Qirshton (KERR'-shton) Smith of Cottage Hills, 37-year-old Johnnie Evans of St. Louis and 35-year-old Damon Beach of St. Peters, Missouri with first-degree murder in the death of Frank Smith.

Authorities say the 54-year-old Smith was shot in the back early Thursday in his home in an apparent robbery that also wounded his nephew. Qirshton Smith and Frank Smith are unrelated.

The suspects also are charged with armed robbery, home invasion and aggravated battery with a firearm.

They're jailed in Edwardsville. It's not immediately clear if they have attorneys.
