New slogan: 'Give 'til it feels right'
In response to the article "Give 'til it feels good this season" (Nov. 27), I couldn't agree more: Giving during the holidays just feels good. The more anyone can give during the holiday season, the better off everyone will be. With the economic crisis on our hands, more people need public services to get along just to make ends meet. For anyone who isn't under economic pressures, give what you can to make struggling families holiday season easier. Will you miss what you give up? Whether it be used clothes, canned goods or a few hours of service at a soup kitchen, giving this year is especially important. However, I have one qualm with what you have to say. We all need to give this season; no doubt - nail on the head. I think "give 'til it feels good" is the wrong way to go about things. If I could argue, we all get a warm feeling in our hearts when we help people. Whether it's picking up a five dollar bill and returning it to its rightful owner, or pushing someone's car out of the snow, we all feel good. Rather I think you should look at the idea, "Give 'til it feels right". We should give until we feel like we have done the right thing. It's more of a challenge to me and anyone who reads this. If we work until we feel good, we will go home satisfied after a half-hour; but if we go out and give until it feels like we have done what is right, lives will be changed this holiday season. Be thankful for what you have, and realize that your neighbor or someone you know could be struggling. Go out and "give 'til it feels right."
