Blaze ravages Antioch apartments
A two-story apartment in downtown Antioch was destroyed by a fire that started in the kitchen around 5:01 p.m. Thursday at 271 Oak Ridge Court.
Ten fire departmentsfrom Lake and southern Kenosha counties responded, said Antioch Public Information Officer Chris Lienhardt.
Capt. Ryan Parker estimated the damage at $100,000 for all three apartments. The cause of the fire was still under investigation. The Antioch Fire Department put out the aid alarm because the fire was in danger of reaching the common attic, where other units could have been endangered.
The affected apartments were in a center unit in the row of apartments. The fire was put out in 25 minutes and did not reach the attic.
A female resident fled the apartment. She lost everything and the American Red Cross is working with her, Lienhardt said.
Three other residents in her apartment were not home at the time of the fire. The two-story apartments on each side of the burned unit were damaged by smoke and water. Those occupants were also displaced.
