ECC closed for winter break

Elgin Community College will reopen at 8 a.m. Monday. Spring 16-week daytime and evening classes start Jan. 20. Twelve-week classes start Feb. 17. Eight-week classes begin March 16. For additional information, call (847) 931-3925.

Give blood, get $100 gas card

Heartland Blood Centers will raffle $100 gas cards every day this month to those who donate blood at a center or mobile drive. The raffle is in celebration of National Blood donor Month in January. Donors must be at least 17 (16 with written parental permission), weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. To find out how to donate, call Heartland at (800) 786-4483.

Get involved at Geneva Library

Petition packets for running for Geneva Library trustee are available at the checkout desk on the upper level of the library, 127 James St. Three, 4-year terms are available in April's election. Petitions must be filed between Jan. 19 and 26. For details, call the library director at (630) 232-0780, ext. 224, or the Kane County Election Office at (630) 232-5990.

AID Telethon at Waubonsee

The Association for Individual Development will host its 10th annual telethon Feb. 28 at Waubonsee Community College, Route 47 and Waubonsee Drive, Sugar Grove. The goal is to raise $125,000 to fund programs for children and adults with disabilities and mental illness. The telethon will air on local Comcast Channels 99 and 17 and Mediacom Channel 15. St. Charles police academy:

The St. Charles Police Department's Citizen Police Academy will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday beginning March 3. Graduation will be in April. Applications are available at the police department by calling (630) 377-4435 or online at stcharlesil.gov/departments/police/ and are subject to approval.
