Obamas to move into Washington hotel this weekend
WASHINGTON -- The Obamas are coming to Washington -- early.
After wrapping up a Hawaiian vacation on Thursday, President-elect Obama and his wife and daughters will arrive in Washington this weekend and move into one of its most prestigious hotels.
It's a little early in the process, with 20 days until his inauguration. But daughters Malia and Sasha begin classes at the Sidwell Friends School on Monday.
Obama's transition team had asked about staying at Blair House, the government guest house across the street from the White House, but the Bush administration said it's booked until Jan. 15.
Even though hotels are rapidly booking rooms for inauguration events, the Obamas found space at the Hay-Adams, also very close to the White House.
