Milestone at Grand Avenue bridge

Traffic has been shifted onto the newly rebuilt eastbound side of the Grand Avenue bridge in Gurnee, marking the halfway point of the project to rebuild and lengthen the structure.

The bridge work will allow for the tollway to be widened beneath Grand Avenue. Shoulder and temporary overnight lane closures should be expected for demolition and reconstruction of the westbound side of the bridge.

The bridge work is expected to be complete by summer 2009. Widening a 45-mile stretch of the tollway through Cook and Lake counties is scheduled to be complete in 2010.
