Lake Forest woman acquitted of failing to report fatal accident

A Lake Forest woman has been found not guilty of failing to report an accident after a crash last year that killed a Buffalo Grove High School student.

The accident occurred in April 2007 on Lake-Cook Road, near Raupp Boulevard in Buffalo Grove.

Matuesz Szakola, 18, of Buffalo Grove, was crossing the street when he was struck by one car and then a second time by a car traveling in the opposite direction. The high school senior died after the crash.

The second car was driven by Catherine Cirrincione.

At the time, Cirrincione said she didn't stop because she didn't think she had struck a pedestrian. Buffalo Grove police had put out an alert after the accident searching for the car, and the 50-year-old woman turned herself in after hearing reports of the crash.

Police have said Cirrincione wasn't responsible for the accident itself.

Judge John Scotillo acquitted Cirrincione of the charges at the Rolling Meadows courthouse Monday, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office.
