State's Attorney adds assistant:
The McHenry County State's Attorney's office announced this week the hiring of a new assistant state's attorney to focus on projects involving the McHenry County Division of Transportation. Cynthia A. Schaupp, who most recently has operated her own private practice in Algonquin, will work in the office's civil division, according to a statement from State's Attorney Louis A. Bianchi. A 1997 graduate of The John Marshall Law School she previously worked as an associate attorney in Chicago with Parrillo, Weiss & O'Halloran as well as at Campion, Curran, Rausch, Gummerson & Dunlap in Crystal Lake and Caldwell, Berner & Caldwell in Woodstock.
Jacobs student appointed to Air Force Academy:
Geri Veilleux, a senior at Jacobs High School in Algonquin, has received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., U.S. Rep. Donald Manzullo announced recently. Veilleux, an Algonquin resident, is a member of the National Honor Society, French Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She is also a student adviser and a peer tutor.
The daughter of Raymond and Valerie Veilleux of Algonquin, she also is captain of the varsity track and field and cross country teams. She is scheduled to graduate from Jacobs in June.
Trade food for tickets:
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, in its role as a drop-off point for the city of Elgin's food drive, is offering one free ticket for every 10 items dropped off at the box office, 20 DuPage Court, in downtown Elgin. The office is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets may be redeemed for any concert from now through June 2009 at the Hemmens Cultural Center. Most needed items are: cans of fruit, vegetables, beans, ravioli, spaghetti, chili, tuna, white rice, macaroni and cheese, ramen noodles, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, oatmeal and powdered milk.
