Lake Zurich, Hersey fall at Pekin

Lake Zurich's boys basketball team fell to pretournament favorite Bartonville Limestone 68-52 in Wednesday's fifth-place game of the 44th annual Pekin Holiday Tournament.

Danny Coleman had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Connor Mooney scored 16 on 5-for-10 shooting from 3-point range and Austin Cox added 13 points and 7 rebounds as the Bears (6-6) went 2-2 in the tourney.

Brandon Kunz also had 15 rebounds. Limestone sophomore all-state guard Donivine Stewart scored 29 points and was 5-for-11 on 3s.

Mooney had scored his 1,000th career point in the Bears' second game of the day Tuesday, a 42-38 win over Mt. Carmel A three-year varsity guard, Mooney has scored 1,023 points.

Hersey (5-8) finished 1-3 in the tournament with a 49-38 loss to defending champion Mt. Carmel in the seventh-place game.

Kyle Mengarelli scored 8 points for the Huskies, who committed 16 turnovers. Mt. Carmel sophomore and Illinois recruit Tracy Abrams had 10 points and 4 assists.
