Group preserves Eartha Kitt's story
On Sept. 20th of this year, the HistoryMakers (an origination dedicated to preserving African-American culture by melding the African tradition of oral history with modern computers) held a gala "Evening With Eartha Kitt" at the Northwestern School of Law on East Chicago Avenue.
An image of the event's brochure is still on their home page, thehistorymakers.com.
Just 96 days after the excitement and festivities of the "Evening With...", Eartha Kitt's passing on a quiet, snow-covered Christmas in Chicago - with plenty of time to reflect - drove home the reality of how precious and temporary life is.
I had a very small part in the production of the brochure for that event; my copy was sitting within arm's reach when I saw the report of her passing on this computer.
