Don't confuse the two Cyranos

I am in no way defending Governor Blagojevich, either for any of his alleged crimes nor for his presumed plagiarism as suggested by Chuck Goudie in his Dec. 22 column.

However, Mr. Goudie does lose some credibility when he quotes "the great French playwright from the 1600s," Cyrano de Bergerac."

The quote referred to, "Whilst I have breath, I will fight you... " was taken from the famous play written by Edmond Rostand in 1897, and it's rather doubtful he was around in the 1600s.

Although the play, "Cyrano de Bergerac" was based on an actual person, it is essentially a work of fiction and the quote is said by the fictional Cyrano, as written by the author, Rostand.

If Mr. Goudie intends to use quotations in his column in the future, perhaps running it through Google before submission might be a prudent move.
