Coal truck overturns after driver falls asleep

MARION -- The driver of a truck hauling coal has been ticketed after falling asleep at the wheel on a southern Illinois roadway, causing the vehicle to run into a ditch and turn over.

Illinois State Police say the 51-year-old driver sustained minor injuries in Monday's accident. Firefighters from Marion had to use extrication equipment to remove him from the truck.

Police say he was asleep at the wheel on Illinois 13 in Marion when his truck left the road.

He's has been cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage and driving while fatigued.
