Two injured in Arlington Heights balcony collapse

Arlington Heights building inspectors were sent to an apartment complex Saturday after a balcony collapse injured two people, fire officials said.

The incident happened around 10:45 a.m. at the Brook Run Apartments, 2728 N. Buffalo Grove Road, said Arlington Heights Fire Department Commander Terry Valentino.

The accident involved a 24-year-old woman and a male guest.

"When they went out there, the balcony failed and they fell to the concrete patio below them," said Valentino.

The woman and man were taken to Northwest Community Hospital by the Arlington Heights Fire Department and the Buffalo Grove Fire Department, respectively.

Their exact conditions were unknown, but neither had life-threatening injuries, Valentino said.

The fire department called the building department to investigate, Valentino said. Building inspectors could not be reached Saturday.
