Beth Judea's Man of the Year:

Congregation Beth Judea's Men's Club of Long Grove has named Gregg Pollack as its 2009 Man of the Year. Pollack, of Northbrook, will be honored Feb. 25 at the Midwest Region of the Federation of Jewish Men's Clubs' annual Man of the Year dinner at Congregation Beth Emunah, 3220 Big Tree Lane in Wilmette. Pollack has been active in Beth Judea's Men's Club and Synagogue life for many years, leading services, organizing the Club's "Hearing Men's Voices" program, serving on the board of directors and providing support for other shul activities. "Gregg Pollack's creative and enthusiastic input into all areas of our Club has been a driving force for the success of the Beth Judea's Men's Club," said Jim MacCrindle, co-president of the club. "There is no man more deserving of being named our Man of the Year 2009." For reservations, call Beth Judea at (847) 634-0777 and leave a message for Man of the Year Dinner chairman.

Wheeling raises water rates:

The Wheeling village board recently approved a 3.95 percent increase in water and sewer rates for 2009. The water rate will go from $4.25 to $4.42, and the sewer rate will go from $1.06 to $1.10. The rates have been increased to maintain a fund balance in those accounts. For an average homeowner who uses 8,000 gallons a month, the increase is a little over $20 a year. It goes into effect Jan. 1.
