Prospect heats up, sinks Evanston 54-41
Trailing Evanson 10-8 after one quarter in opening-round play at Dundee-Crown on Friday, Prospect (12-1) rallied and got its first lead when senior Alyssa Glennon hit one of her three second-quarter 3-pointers.
Prospect never trailed again, winning 54-41 to advance to Saturday's quarterfinal against Mother McAuley at 3:30 p.m.
"We struggled with out shots early but by the second quarter (Knights outscored Wildkits 20-9) we pulled through and worked as a team."
Alyssa Glennon scored 12 of her career-high 16 points in the second quarter.
"Evanston was really fast and really aggressive," Alyssa said. "It was a physical game. We picked up our intensity in the second quarter and started taking care of the ball better.
"We're excited about this tournament. We want to play against the good teams here."
Brucci and Lexi Glennon each pitched in 10 points for the Knights, who have won 11 in a row.
Rachel Hunt pulled down 8 rebounds while Sarah Hunt, Sarah Winans, Lexi Glennon and Alyssa Glennon each got 4 of their own. Prospect had seven different players score and 10 girls who played in the game.
"The girls played well and did a great job of taking care of the ball," said Kelly, who will miss today's game to attend her sister's wedding in Milwaukee. "We watched McAuley play (Friday) and talked about what we need to do. Our kids are learning not just how to play as a team, but how to play the game."
