Family Night Out Magic Show: Randy Bernstein brings 20 years of performing experience to entertain the whole family. This program includes magic, comedy and positive messages. The magic show will be from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. Fee is $14 for residents and $21 for nonresidents.
Pottawatomie Preschool: Are you interested in having your child participate in the 2009-2010 Pottawatomie Preschool program? Attend an open house to meet teachers, see classrooms and obtain information regarding the preschool program. For more information on the open house, call Krista Mulready at (630) 513-4326. The open house will be held on two dates and times: Wednesday, Jan. 14, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31, from 10 a.m. to noon. Pottawatomie Preschool is at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave.
College Campus Tour: Not sure where to head off to college when you're done with high school? Visit nearby colleges to see if any are right for you. Tour Aurora University, Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, and Elgin Community College. The trip for ages 15 to 18 will be Saturday, Jan. 17. It will depart from the Baker Community Center, 101 S. Second St., at 9 a.m. and return by 6 p.m. The registration deadline is Thursday, Jan. 15. Fee is $15 for residents and $22.50 for nonresidents.
Saturday Jammin' at the Underground: The STC Underground is the place to be for music and fun with your friends. Enjoy local bands as they perform live at the Underground. It is open to ages 11 to 19. You must have a valid student ID or driver's license to enter. Music starts at 7 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m. Admission fee is $5. Exploring Unknowns in Reality: This lively, interactive class will discuss what scientists don't know and won't tell you. Topics include time's flexibility, antimatter, teleportation, String Theory, Big Bang Theory, black holes and more. Paul Gill is a scientific researcher who has lectured at numerous universities and colleges. The class for ages 18 and older meets Thursday, Jan. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave. Fee is $110 for residents and $160 for nonresidents.
Winter Walk: The winter landscape may appear quiet and still, but take a closer look. The natural world is very much alive. Join this free walk through Campton Hills Park to observe tracks and other signs of animals active during this time of year. They also will discuss winter survival strategies of various animals and hone our winter plant ID skills. Be sure to dress for the weather. This free class, for ages 18 and older, meets from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at Campton Hills Park on the corner of Campton Hills and Peck roads.
Pilates at Total Body Dynamics: Taught by professionally certified instructors in authentic Pilates (as originally created by Joseph Pilates), this class focuses on strengthening the core of your body while improving flexibility and lengthening muscles. The class for all ages meets Tuesdays from 4 to 4:45 p.m. at Total Body Dynamics, 1815 Wallace Ave., Unit 312, St. Charles. The fee is $40 for residents and $60 for nonresidents.
Trip to Paramount Theatre for Barrage: Visit the Paramount Theatre in Aurora for a theatrical spectacle and a behind-the-scenes question and answer session. Barrage is a fiddle-fest featuring an international, multitalented cast performing an eclectic mix of music, song and dance. After the show, enjoy lunch at Lume's Restaurant and shopping at local stores. The registration deadline is Friday, Jan. 12. Trip to Aurora will be Monday, Jan. 26, departing at 9 a.m. from the Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Ave., and returning by 4 p.m. Fee is $26.
