Rainbow/PUSH coalition celebrates anniversary

This month marks the 43rd anniversary of the Rev. Jesse Jackson's Rainbow/PUSH coalition in Chicago.

The group was founded on Christmas Day in 1971. Its mission is to fight for social change by reducing violence and poverty.

Recently, the group met with workers who staged a sit-in at a Chicago factory to protest their loss of vacation pay and severance. The organization has also worked on issues regarding the mortgage mess and home foreclosures.

Jackson says the group started its work with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and plans to keep going.

As for the anniversary, Jackson says he'll continue his 20-year Christmas Day tradition of visiting inmates at Cook County Jail.
