Police: South Elgin bank robberies may be linked
The tactics used in a Tuesday night bank robbery in South Elgin were very similar to another recent bank robbery in the village, police have revealed.
Authorities said that at about 5:15 p.m., a 5-foot-3-inch-tall black woman wearing a leather jacket, jeans, a black cap, gloves and winter boots walked into Amcore Bank at 536 Randall Road.
The woman, according to a news release, implied in a note that she had a weapon but never showed one. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank, she fled on foot in a southwest direction and is believed to have been picked up in a vehicle.
The reports of the Dec. 5 robbery of the South Elgin State Bank of Illinois were very similar to Tuesday's incident, police and the FBI said. There, a woman in similar attire, who also implied with a note that she had a handgun but never displayed a weapon, held up the bank at 1140 West Spring Street at about 4:55 p.m.
Police have released several photos of Tuesday's robbery. No arrests had yet been made Wednesday, officials said. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call (847) 741-2151.
