Storm causes state police to enact emergency snow plan

An overwhelming volume of calls caused state police to enact their emergency snow plan Tuesday, instructing uninjured motorists in crashes to exchange property damage information, get going, and call them later.

As of 2:30 p.m., police had responded to 42 crashes on I-88, I-355, I-90 and I-94, not including motor assists.

"Who knows how many we've actually handled," Master Sgt. Ed Petrik said. "It feels like 800 million."

Petrik said state police put the plan into effect whenever the volume of calls to them becomes overwhelming. "It will probably go all night," he said.
