Sex offender who drank beer with teen gets 2 years

A convicted child sex offender was headed back to prison Tuesday after admitting he shared a beer with a 17-year-old boy at an Elgin park.

Policardo P. Villanueva, 35, of Carpentersville, pleaded guilty to being in a public park and was sentenced to two years in prison by Kane County Judge Grant S. Wegner. He was credited for 78 days served in the county jail.

Villanueva was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Oct. 7 after an Elgin patrol officer saw him sharing a 40-ounce beer with the teen along a public bike path.

The boy told police he was walking to a grocery store at 55 Clock Tower Plaza when Villanueva called to him, offering a "friendship bracelet" for $5. After the boy bought a bracelet, Villanueva gave him a small pocket knife and promised him beer if he would walk over to a nearby bike path, according to police.

Villanueva was convicted 11 years ago of sexually abusing a 15-year-old in Wisconsin, according to an online database of Illinois sex offenders.
