Brothers draw probation in attack on Marine's ear

MARKHAM -- Two brothers who reportedly tore off part of an off-duty Marine's ear in an attack outside an Oak Forest tavern have pleaded guilty to battery charges and have been sentenced to probation.

Police say Joshua and Jason Haack attacked Midlothian Marine Kevin Heath while he was on leave on April 5, battering his head, breaking his nose in five places and ripping off part of his right ear.

Twenty-two-year-old Joshua Haack of Oak Forest, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated battery, and was sentenced to two years probation Monday.

Twenty-nine-year-old Jason Haack of Chicago Ridge, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery and was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge.

Heath, who was in court in full uniform, said he needed surgery to reattach his ear but has made a full recovery.
